Lernex (“we,” “our,” or “us”) values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use our website, mobile app, and related services (the “Service”).

2Information We Collect
We collect information you provide, information generated through your learning activity, and technical data needed to operate and secure the Service.
Account & Profile
Email, password or third-party sign-in, name, username, date of birth, avatar, bio, interests, public profile settings (including whether to show your real name), theme preference, TTS settings, and onboarding responses (“Learning DNA”).
Learning & Progress
Lesson history, saved lessons, flashcards, terms, playlists, quiz answers, attempts, accuracy, streaks, points, placement and quiz progress, concept mastery, spaced repetition data, and learning analytics.
Content & Uploads
Text you submit in prompts or messages; documents and images you upload for OCR; audio uploads for transcription; extracted text; file metadata (name, hash, size, type, page count); generated lesson content; and TTS audio files stored when you request audio.
Social & Community
Friend connections, study sessions, challenges, commitments, tutoring threads and messages, shared attachments, social feed events, comments, reactions, and in-app notifications.
Usage & Technical
IP address, request metadata, usage logs (model, token counts, costs, route metadata), cookies for authentication, local storage for preferences, device or timezone context for time intelligence, and rate-limiting identifiers.
Inferences & Personalization Signals
Learning style profiles, explanation fingerprints, mistake patterns, emotional snapshots and intervention outcomes, hidden signals (e.g., test anxiety, procrastination, avoidance), time intelligence patterns, and collaborative cohorts or recommendations.
Payments & Rewards
Subscription tier and status, Stripe customer and subscription IDs, billing period dates, Sparks purchases and transactions, and Vault inventory, boosts, and reward transactions.
3How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the Service, including authentication and account management
- Generate lessons, quizzes, flashcards, terms, and explanations
- Personalize learning using Learning DNA, signals, and progress data
- Track progress, streaks, points, and analytics
- Operate social features, leaderboards, playlists, and rewards
- Enforce usage limits, prevent abuse, and secure the platform
- Send transactional emails and support communications
- Improve performance, reliability, and content quality
4AI Processing & Automated Personalization
Lernex uses AI models to generate learning content, analyze your answers, and process uploads. This means the text you submit (prompts, answers, documents, and support messages) and relevant context (subject, difficulty, prior activity) may be sent to AI providers for processing.
- Lesson, quiz, flashcard, term, and explanation generation
- OCR for uploaded documents and images
- Audio transcription (Whisper) and TTS translation + speech generation
- Embeddings for search, clustering, and recommendations
- Mistake analysis, explanation fingerprinting, and learning-style adaptation
- Support chat assistance
We log AI usage (model, token counts, costs, provider metadata) along with IP for rate limiting, billing, and usage limits. Automated personalization is used to tailor content and guidance; it does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.
5Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information in these cases:
- Service Providers: Hosting, analytics, storage, email, payments, and AI processing providers (including Supabase, Vercel, Stripe, Resend, Groq, DeepInfra, and, if enabled, EigenAI).
- Analytics & Marketing: Vercel Analytics/Speed Insights for performance monitoring; Adsterra for ads if ads are enabled for free-tier users.
- Other Users: Public profiles, leaderboards, public playlists, tutoring threads, and social feed content based on your visibility settings.
- Shared Document Cache: OCR text and titles may be shared across authenticated users when a document is identified as common academic content; private documents remain user-scoped.
- Legal Obligations: If required by law, regulation, or legal process.
- Business Transfers: In the case of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
6Public & Social Features
Lernex includes community features such as public profiles, friends, leaderboards, and social feeds. Your username, avatar, bio, and selected stats can be visible to other users. Your real name is hidden by default unless you enable the “show real name” setting.
Social feed items and tutoring threads are visible to participants based on visibility settings (friends, private, or public). Public playlists can be viewed by other users.
7Data Retention
We retain information as long as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Some data is designed to expire on a shorter schedule.
- Quiz progress is configured to expire after about 7 days of inactivity.
- Placement progress is configured to expire after about 30 days of inactivity.
- Pending lesson queues are cleaned after about 7 days.
- Non-saved lesson history entries are cleaned after about 30 days.
- User-scoped document cache entries are treated as fresh for about 7 days and cleaned after roughly 30 days.
- Shared document cache entries are cleaned after about 30 days.
- Upload history entries not accessed are cleaned after about 90 days.
- Recent interaction signals, hidden-signal events, and mistake occurrences are kept for around 90 days to compute aggregates.
- Usage logs and billing records may be retained longer for accounting and compliance.
8Cookies & Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and measure performance.
- Authentication cookies (Supabase) to maintain your session.
- Local or session storage for theme, onboarding flags, and UI preferences.
- Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights for performance monitoring.
- If ads are enabled, Adsterra may set cookies for ad delivery and measurement.
9Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information and to request a copy of your data.
- Update profile details, preferences, and public visibility settings in your profile.
- Control whether your real name appears on public profiles.
- Manage TTS and reminder settings.
- Request access or deletion by contacting support.
The in-app delete account action currently removes your profile row and signs you out. If you need full deletion of additional records (auth account, usage logs, or history), contact support.
10Children's Privacy
Lernex is not intended for children under 13 (or under 16 in some regions). We do not knowingly collect data from children without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
